Windows on a Mac
The other day a friend called me from California. I help him with his Mac problems from time to time. He had a colleague on the east coast who also had a Mac who needed assistance with installing Windows on her MacBook Pro 17″.
FileMaker Pro 10
I have been a FileMaker Pro user since version 2 which seems like a hundred years ago. FileMaker Pro has always been the “ease of use” database on the Mac, and now Windows as well. So, when FileMaker released version 10 of it’s flagship database program I felt like I needed to upgrade.
Safari DNS Slowness
Over the past few weeks my Safari has been very slow at resolving websites. I select a website and it sits there as if it is having problems resolving the DNS or something. At first I thought it was my network, then my DSL provider, but I have eliminated those two potential problem areas. So, I went on Apple Discussions and discovered a possible resolution to my problem.
Pacifist
Every once in a while I end up buying a shareware program. Just recently it seemed like my DVD Player application that is installed by Leopard was misbehaving. I read online about how to reinstall it using a cool little program called Pacifist.
Freeway vs. Dreamweaver
As you may know I have used Freeway Pro by Softpress for my web development for several years. It is more of a design oriented program for people who do not wish to do a lot of code tweaking. Recently I did want to do a little tweaking on one of my Freeway sites involving CSS Menus. However, I was not able to do what I wanted so in a fit of anger and hysteria I downloaded a trial version of Dreamweaver CS4 to give it a test drive.
AOL Accounts

The other day I worked on a friends computer fixing some FileMaker Pro files and some things in the OS. She is running OS 10.4.11. She has had AOL email forever, but the only way she can make her email work is to use the web mail feature. Sad. I have been doing research to see if you can setup AOL email in a dedicated email application like Apple Mail. Anybody out there doing that? Send me a comment if you are. I would like to set her up that way.

Photoshop Elements & Twain
I have owned my Brother multifunction DCP 8065DN for over a year now, but I have never been able to make the twain driver work with Adobe Photoshop 4 or my new version 6, until now.
MailActOn
Are any of you versed in the MailActOn plugin for Apple’s Mail application? I got such a good deal on it the other day I couldn’t pass it up. I have heard good things about it, but I must confess I am not exactly a power user when it comes to email. Yes, I have all kinds of accounts, rules, etc., but I just don’t get as much email as some people. If you have any experience with MailActOn send in a comment.

USB 2.0 Hard Drive Adapter
I am getting my old G4 and G3 computers ready for disposal and needed to erase several ATA IDE hard drives. I did a little research and with a friends help came across the USB 2.0 to IDE SATA Cable Adapter For PC HDD CD DVD ROM kit at Amazon. This kit is totally awesome. The price is right at $8.79. Read on for a short synopsis of how this thing works.
iTunes 8.1.1
Well, Apple released another update to the update for iTunes. Version 8.1.1 was released yesterday. Click here to read what has been fixed. Apparently there are quite a few bug fixes. Based on my experience with 8.1 I think I will wait a bit before installing this update. If you feel comfortable with it, by all means go ahead and install it.
