Slow Computers & The Desktop
For years from doing Mac Tech support and through friends I have fielded complaints about peoples computers becoming slow. One of the typical fixes for this is just to save all your work and do a restart. Frequently one of the causes of this is a totally loaded desktop containing tons of documents and folders.
WordPress Meta Tags
One of the things about WordPress is that it is a “canned” system. It is not easily modifiable like using a full fledged website editing application. One of the primary ways to modify a WordPress install is through plugins. In an effort to gain more exposure to my website I just installed a plugin for WordPress called Add-Meta-Tags WordPress Plugin (catchy name). I added a “description” and “keyword” section using the plugin. After checking the page code online everything looks good. Just click on the link if you want to install the plugin. It is pretty easy.

News Aggregators

Like a typical Mac nerd I monitor several Mac news sites during the day. It I don’t have time during the day I breeze through them at night. The best way to cover a group of websites for Macintosh or any other topic is to use a news aggregator.
Joomla!
I have used many different systems on the web over the years from standalone website design apps like Freeway, iWeb, Flux and RapidWeaver to WordPress and now to Joomla!. Joomla! has been around for a few years and is considered a CMS (content management system).
Safari Java
Apparently there is a problem with how the Safari web browser handles Java (this is not the same as Javascript) which has left a major vulnerability for malicious code to be implemented on your machine if the particular website you are on is corrupted.
Skype

Recently I was testing out Skype with a friend just to see if we could do video between our iMacs. I have used Skype off and on over the years and I must say the new versions of Skype have improved remarkedly. It is a much better app than in previous iterations. But, how does it compare with iChat?
Phishing Emails
Beware! There are several phishing emails circulating out there for .Mac, Facebook and other services. Just read you emails carefully and you won’t get burned. Here is a link about it on Apple Discussions.

Odds & Ends
Been using OS X 10.5.7 for a few days now. I have been following various issues with this update on various web sites. To the best of my knowledge many of them could be resolved with a “Safe Boot”. I have a few observations after these initial few days.
10.5.7 & VMWare Fusion
First, go read this article about a problem with 10.5.7 and VMWare Fusion. Now that you have read it, don’t panic! I am running 10.5.7 and VMWare Fusion with Windows XP Home. All you have to do is go into the “Settings” of VMWare and turn off 3D Acceleration for the time being. When VMWare fixes the issue with an update then turn it back on. That is what I did and VMWare Fusion/Windows is working fine.

The 10.5.7 Thing
Well, I checked several websites about 10.5.7 and it seems to be a pretty decent update. Yes, there were a few problems, but for the most part the installs went fine. So I decided to go ahead with it, but with a new twist.
