Time Capsule
Went out on an onsite today to setup someone’s Time Capsule. All went pretty well including setting up this person’s Windows 7 machine on the Apple network.
iPhone Security
This is a really thorough article on iPhone security. It seems to cover just about everything. If you are an iPhone user check it out.

Boot Camp
The other day I installed and setup a Boot Camp partition for a customer who wanted to run a cad program in Windows XP Pro. Setting up Boot Camp is not difficult, but it is very time consuming. Basically, you just have to do it by the numbers.
More Photo Madness
A person came in today and was complaining that her iMac lost her photos. Really? I checked in iPhoto and on the Mac and the photos were not there. What happened? The user inadvertently threw away the photos and decided to blame the computer. I have never known iPhoto to lose photos, but users do, quite frequently. In the end, nothing can replace a good Time Machine backup.

Photo Anarchy
One of my jobs today was to migrate some files from a switchers PC to a new 27″ iMac. Everything went fine until we got to the photos. These people had 16,000 photos for us to try to import into iPhoto.
Mac Attraction
People just seem to gravitate to the Mac. There is a certain attraction there somehow. I guess part of it is their elegant design, but the real bottom line is ease of use. My daughter and her husband are a case in point.
iBook Updates
The other day a customer brought in an old G3 iBook. Yes, it was still running after 5 years or so. I think he bought it off eBay or something. It was running OS 10.2 Jaguar. Anyone remember that OS? I loved the Aqua look.
iMac Video
The latest in the new 27″ iMac news is the video card problem. Apparently it is not too wide spread. The video signal flickers and sometimes it is bad enough to have horizontal lines across the screen. I have seen both. A case in point is a 27″ iMac that a customer brought in yesterday with the horizontal lines. This issue is easy to diagnose. We ordered the part from Apple immediately. Hopefully, the new video card will not be defective.

Clearing Caches
OS X whatever version is based on Unix. The structure of the Unix OS involves having all these cache files. Just about every operation you do has some type of cache file(s) involved. One of the best things you can do in OS X is clear the caches once in a while.
SuperDrive Gone Bad?
Not so fast! Yes, we do get quite of failed SuperDrives in the shop. But, it isn’t always the SuperDrive that is failing. A case in point would be at least three jobs that came in over the last 3-4 days where customers reported malfunctioning SuperDrives.
