There are all kinds OS X maintenance applications out there and I have used or currently use most of them. Onyx is one of my favorites and Cocktail is excellent as well. But, recently I came across a cool little utility app called HDCleanUp. For a mere $10 it does a lot of cool stuff.

Do you use the Perian plugin on your Mac? The application is a popular plugin for QuickTime that allows many non-standard and obscure codecs to be played in Apple’s default media player, including Flash videos. The plugin is supposed to fix several bugs and crash issues. If you don’t have it you should get it from MacUpdate or VersionTracker. It works great. It installs as a Preference Pane.

Panorama Split Field

March 22, 2010 · Filed Under Software · Comment

As I explore the new Panorama 6 database application I am discovering new features. One of these is the “Split Field” procedure. I have been working with databases for years and one thing that always crops up is the need to split a field. Typically this is involves splitting the First and Last name into two fields or sometimes it may be splitting off the zip code from an address field.

If you are having problems with slow page loads in Safari or slowness in retrieving email then you need to read this article about alternative DNS servers. I have used OpenDNS before and it has worked well, although these days it seems to be a toss up for speed between my ISP and other DNS alternatives.

blocks_image_5_1OK, I have used FileMaker Pro and Panorama database programs for years. I like them both, but for sheer innovation and speed, Panorama wins hands down. I just purchased and downloaded Panorama 6, Snow Leopard compatible. It looks great, I am anxious to get into it. More to follow.

Satisfied Customer

Another satisfied customer. The other day I prepared an older MacBook Pro for someone at my place of work. This laptop was about 3 years old, hence not a newer unibody style book. But, once the HD was cleaned off and a clean OS installed it still really popped, not super fast, but fast enough.

I have been trying to setup Time Machine to an internal hard drive on my Mac Pro at work. For some reason it keeps erring out about half way through the process. The error message doesn’t really tell you anything, it just says there is an error.

Running Low On RAM

This is a very helpful article if you are using a 15″ or 17″ unibody MacBook Pro and seem to be running out of memory from time to time. Just the information about Activity Monitor is worth the read.
