Mac Hard Drive Swap
Having two Mac Techs at work is pretty handy sometimes. The other day we had one of our customers whose MacBook Pro keyboard was dying. He was going on a trip that day and needed his laptop.
We didn’t have enough time to fix the keyboard so I suggested we take the hard drive out of the customers MacBook Pro and put it in another MacBook Pro with a good keyboard. We had another used one of the same model. So, I took one machine and my partner took the other. We removed the top case (the keyboard area) on each machine, removed and swapped out the hard drives. Then we assembled it all again and the good machine with the customers hard drive booted right up!. We handed him a laptop that was in much better shape than his own and he was good to go for his trip. We got it all done in about 20 minutes. Pretty cool really.
You can do this on a PC, but they always have so much grief to deal with afterwards, reinstalling drivers and other junk. With the Mac it was literally just ‘plug n play’.
