I think Predictive Text in iOS 8 is totally cool. Predictive Text is appears below your typing window in Messages. It makes word suggestions based on what you are typing at the time. However, some people find it annoying and wish for it to disappear. Here’s how you do that.
If you are using Messages in iOS 8 it came with Predictive Text already activated. It looks like this:
It is the suggested words right below the text enter window. I use this all the time in texting. However, if you wish this to go away, it is annoying to you, or you are the perfect texter (☺︎), by all means lets remove it!!
There are two ways to do this. If you look at the upper edge of the texting window you will see a border. If you tap and hold on this border and drag down it will close the Predictive Text window. When you do it will look like this:
You should now see kind of a line with a slight handle in the middle of it just below your text writing field. The problem with this is that sometimes it is difficult to “grab” that line and pull it down. I guess I would say it does not “grab” too easily.
However, there is another way to do this that I think is a little easier. All you have to do is tap and hold on the Emoji icon to the left of the microphone which is to the left of your space bar in the texting area. Messages produces this popup menu:
All you have to do is tap on the slider next to “Predictive” and it will hide the Predictive Text area. And conversely, to unhide it just follow the above procedure in reverse.
I really like Predictive Text. I use it fairly frequently, especially for longer words. But, if it is not your thing then just disable it. No worries.
