I have used the Apple TV for years. Currently, I have the version 3 model, my wife and I really love it. If you have an Apple TV you may have noticed that Apple has added many channels over the last few years. This is a good thing, but my Apple TV Main Menu is getting a little over crowded for my taste.
I do not know if you go into the Settings area of your Apple TV much, but there is some important stuff in there. Usually, I just go into the General area and update the Apple TV software or check network settings, etc. Recently I decided I wanted to remove some of the clutter from the Main Menu. There are channels on there for every persons taste, I just wanted to remove some of the ones that did not appeal to me. This is easy to do by the way.
All you have to do in the Apple TV Main Menu is find and select Settings like so (click on the image for a larger version):
This will take you to a listing of all the “Channels” available in the Main Menu area when you first start up your Apple TV. In this case I had no need of MLB TV. So I scrolled down in the list to MLB TV. When I got to it I just clicked the “Select” button on my remote (sometimes called the “OK” button) toggling the Main Menu to “Hide” this channel like so:
Yes, this is a simple procedure, but I highly recommend it for two reasons. It will force you to really look through the channels in the Main Menu to see what is available. There are several cool items that I had not know about. And, it lets you slim down your Main Menu to a more manageable, useful functionality.
Apple will be coming out with a new Apple TV this year for sure, but until they do we can still make our current Apple TV’s leaner and meaner.
