OK, this new feature in the iOS 9 Remiders app (not new to the Yosemite Remiders app) is going to get a lot of use by yours truly. I have covered how I am using the Reminders app in a previous article. As previously promised, I wanted to look at a few other features of the Reminders app besides using it in “list mode”.
Here is the deal. You are away from home doing things “in town”. You remember or your are reminded by a family member or friend to pick something up at the store on the way home. So, you drive home and completely forget to get the store item! I am so used to driving home the same way all the time it has become rote. I end up just letting the car go the way it always goes and forgetting to “buy milk”! However, the new iOS 9 Reminders app has a solution.
Here is how this works. Lets go into your lists mode in the Reminders app in iOS 9 and enter the proverbial “buy milk” like so:
When you are finished typing “buy milk” just click on the small “i” icon to the right of the entry and you will be taken to this screen:
Tap on “Remind me at location” and then tap in the “Location” area. You will be taken to a list of locations.
OK, this is the painful part. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have the address for my most used super market handy, so you have to look it up and type it in there. A pain I know, but you only have to do it one time. When you complete and delete this reminder, the address remains so you can us it from now on. In my case the McLaughlin Rd. address is the correct one. When you tap on it, Remnders shows you a small map:
You can select “When I Arrive” or “When I Leave”. I always use “When I Arrvie”. If I use “When I Leave” I will still forget it for sure. When you are finished entering the address you click on “Details”, upper left corner. You will be taken back to the Details screen with the address added:
When you tap on “Done” you are taken back to the main Reminders screen. The address has been added to the reminder.
I don’t know about you, but as far as I am concerned this feature is a life saver. It saves on frustration and a lot of extra trips to the store. Of course, you could use this location feature for many other types of reminders, YMMV.
