In my previous article on Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) I covered most of the basic features available in the app. In this issue I would like to move on to some of the more advanced features, some of which I will use and some I will not use.
The Advanced Stuff
There are several “Advanced” settings in CCC that might interest you. Lets look at the Scheduling feature first. You click in the “Schedule” square and CCC drops down this scheduling area:
You can choose the frequency of your clones using this dropdown menu, setting the day and time, etc.:
As I mentioned in my previous article you can choose what CCC does to the system using this lower dropdown in the scheduling module:
CCC looks at scheduled activity as “Tasks”. Here is the window of my backup clone which shows the “Task” in the sidebar:
You could have different Tasks to backup other drives and/or folders, say by the hour or by the day. This new version of CCC is quite versatile.
CCC has an official “Advanced” area. To activate it just click on this button:
and it slides up the “Advanced” items menu:
There are all kinds of things you can do in here like run scripts, troubleshoot, etc. I probably would not be using too many of these settings, but you never know. You may just grow into them, so to speak.
CCC has tons of Preferences. I am not going to go into that area. If you buy CCC then you can tweak them to your hearts content.
Carbon Copy Cloner is a very sophisticated, easy to use cloning application. I highly recommend it for your backup needs. You can download it for a 30 day trial which might be a good idea to see if you wish to fork over the $39. I think once you use it for a while you will want to keep it.
