AweEraser

I have covered several different Apps that erase various parts of the Mac hard drive. It is nice to have choices. Today, I want to add AweEraser from Magoshare. It is a pretty thorough App that performs several types of erases on your Mac.

AweEraser

AweEraser is normally $29.95, but it is available in the App Store right now for $9.99. It is a pretty well-designed App, let’s take a look.

AweEraser erases files, hard drives and free space on hard drives. It also has an Internet Cleaner and App Uninstaller. Here is what AweEraser has to say about it’s erasing capabilities:

AweEraser for Mac can securely erase any type of data from Mac computer, HDD, SSD, USB flash drive, memory card, SD card, digital camera, RAID, Server, external hard drive, or any other storage device. It offers military & government data erasure standards (including DOD 5220.22-M, U.S. Army AR380-19) to ensure your data has been permanently erased. After data erasure, your data is permanently lost, can’t be recovered by any data recovery software or manual data recovery service.

Here is the main window:

Main Window

To erase files you can click the “Add” button or just drag them onto the main window:

Erase Window

Once you add a file or folder to the main window, you can just go ahead and click “Erase”. It gives you a quick warning, and then the file is erased. However, the power of AweEraser is in the erase standards. To access those you click on the arrow in the bottom right corner of the window:

Erase Standards

This popup gives you several different choices for securely erasing the file or folder in question. I think that a few of these very thorough settings might be too much for some people, but if you need to really confirm some data is gone, you can do that with AweEraser.

I did not have any spare hard drive to erase. Suffice it to say all the same erase standards are available for a hard drive.

AweEraser has an App Uninstaller. You just click on it and a list of your Apps appears:

Uninstaller

When you click “Uninstall” you are presented with the App and it’s associated files:

Uninstall File List

When you click “Uninstall” these files are removed. The uninstaller looks pretty thorough. If you are not using another uninstaller, I am certain the one in AweEraser would work just fine.

AweErase includes an Internet Cleaner. When you select it a list of the main browsers on your Mac is presented along with what will be deleted from each:

A word of caution here, you may not wish to delete all the listed items from these browsers. Select each one and take a close look at what will be cleaned. You may want to uncheck some of these items.

Conclusion

AweCleaner looks like a pretty cool App. You can buy it from their website, but the App Store version is on sale for $9.99. I did delete a few files for test purposes and played around with some of it’s other capabilities. It works quite well in High Sierra, I had no problems with this App.
