iOS has all kinds of features buried in the Settings area. One of those is Significant Locations in your Location History which is a part of the Location Services on your iOS Device. In the interest of Privacy, Apple has included the ability to clear your Location History or just turn it off altogether. Here is how all that works.
Location History Overview
You access the Location History in the Settings area of your iOS Device. Once in Settings, tap on Privacy:
Once in the Privacy area tap on Location Services:
When in Location Services scroll down and tap on System Services:
Yes, this is a little convoluted, but it is not difficult to do. Inside this area scroll down and tap on Significant Locations:
The first thing you can do once you are in Significant Locations is to turn it off altogether by tapping the slider:
If you only wish to Delete some of the Significant Locations then just tap on a location like so:
Once inside then tap on Edit in the upper right corner:
You will see a red minus button next to the locations. You can tap on the red minus button to Delete a location:
Or just slide the location to the right and tap Delete:
This way you can selectively scroll through your Significant Locations and remove the ones you no longer wish to retain.
There is one more thing you can do in this area. If you wish to leave Significant Locations turned on, but would like to remove ALL the locations, just scroll down to the bottom of the list and tap on Clear History.
I think interacting with Significant Locations falls in the category of Privacy and/or iOS Device clean up. Either way, it is not a bad idea to take a look in there once in a while.
