Apple announced macOS Big Sur at the WWDC with all its new features. However, as is usually the case, there are several smaller improvements to the operating system that were not announced initially, but are being gradually discovered. One of those minor improvements is the installation speed of system updates. Currently, it is a drag to update the macOS because it is so slow. However, in macOS Big Sur Apple is promising faster system updates. This article explains how that works. I have not been able to test this yet, but will do so with the next Big Sur Beta release.
