I don’t know if you have experienced this problem, but it must be fairly common based on the amount of information that is out there to fix it. Occasionally, I get duplicate contacts in iOS. I do not know what causes this, if I did I would try to avoid it. There are Apps designed to remove duplicate contacts. However, sometimes each duplicate has fresh information. The best way to handle that is to “Link” the contacts. Here is how to do that.
Let me begin by stating I am going to block out a lot of contact information for obvious reasons. To link contacts start by tapping on one of the contacts in question:
Once in the contact area tap on “Edit” in the upper right corner.
Once in this area scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap on “link contacts”.
You end up back in the contacts area. Scroll down to the duplicate contact and select it.
On the next screen tap on the “Link” button.
In the next screen you will see the linked contacts list.
Just click “Done” and you are taken to the combined contact.
You can go into the combined contact to check the information if you wish. I have used this linking feature on about 10 contacts on my iPhone.
If you have duplicate contacts on your iPhone, but both contacts have information you wish to keep, then link them.
