I think most Mac people use the macOS Time Machine App for backing up their systems. I use other backup methods so I have not used Time Machine for years. The beauty of Time Machine is you plug in a drive, set it up for Time Machine and forget. For the most part, it just works. You may not have known this, but you do not have to leave your Time Machine drive plugged in all the time. Apparently, Time Machine catches up with backups when you plug it back in which I did not know.
