Catalina Preferences Apple ID

Posted by

Apple has rearranged the System Preferences in the new Catalina OS 10.15. It is mostly the same stuff, but grouped differently. However, the whole Apple ID area has received the most changes. A lot of it is just the same information in Mojave, but in different groupings. I like the way Apple has done this, it is logical and easy to follow. Here is how it all works.

System Preferences Overview

Here is what System Preferences now looks like in Catalina. Remember, I am working in a Beta, some of this is subject to change before final release:

Instead of several rows of groupings as in previous versions of Mac OS, Apple only has a couple. If you could figure out why certain items were in which group, let me know. I could not discern any kind of special order here.

Apple ID

Access to the new Apple ID area is located in the upper right corner. When you click on that you get this Overview window:

All of the activity resides in the left column. The upper area contains the functions, the lower area your devices. So, let’s just go down the list.

Name, Phone, Email

Here is the Name, Phone, Email area:

OK, I will have to block out some of this info. I mean, I can’t tell you my birthday right? That center “Reachable” window that is blurred out is email addresses and phone number associated with your Apple ID.

Password & Security

The Password & Security area is where you can change your Apple ID password and activate or deactivate Two-Factor Authentication:

It also lists your Trusted phone numbers.

Payment & Shipping

The Payment and Shipping area is pretty self-explaining:

I had to blur out my Shipping Address here. This area has to do with Apple Pay on your Mac and your Shipping Address. This is the stuff you use when you use Apple Pay to order online.

The iCloud, Media & Purchases area is pretty much self-explanatory.

Devices

If you click on one of your Devices you will get this screen:

To locate a device click on the “View on Web” button. You will be taken to a locating screen like this in Safari:

This process can take a while, but it eventually finds your Device:

Those are my Devices at my home, my iMac, iPhone and iPad.

Conclusion

I really like the consolidation of all the Apple ID stuff into this area. It is logical and makes sense which enhances our efficiency.
