DotMac Synchronization

Posted by

I have been using .Mac for a few weeks now and I am enjoying it tremendously. Today I want to talk about the sync feature of .Mac. I kind of discovered the sync feature by accident, just looking around.

You get to .Mac account in the System Preferences. When you click on the .Mac icon you get the .Mac window. If you select the Sync tab you get this window:

You can sync all kinds of things between your computers. I sync between my G4 in my office and our MacBook which we usually keep in the living room. As you can see I choose to sync Bookmarks, Calendars, Contacts, and Keychains. It so cool to have the same bookmarks on all of our Macs. My wife commented just the other night that she really liked having her bookmarks on the MacBook.

What actually happens when you click the sync button is the particular computer you are on syncs up the items you have chosen onto .Mac. When you do the same to another machine it syncs with whatever information is up on .Mac. You can set this feature to sync according to a schedule or manually. I do it manually because I really only need to do it about once a month.

The more I use .Mac the more I realize it really has a bunch of features. Sync is one of my favorite ones. More on .Mac later. If you use .Mac try this feature. I think you will like it.

Until We Meet Again,
